In Boulder County, just like everywhere else, some people are unable to buy enough nutritious, healthy food for themselves and their families.
There are several ways to supplement your family’s grocery needs;
The Food Assistance or SNAP program, (formerly known as “Food Stamps”) helps low-income individuals and families purchase the food they need. You can apply for food assistance through PEAK, or come in to a county office to apply and complete the required interview on a first come first served basis Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If your household meets the criteria you may be able to receive food assistance on an electronic benefits card to purchase groceries the very same day.
The WIC program can provide additional assistance for pregnant, breastfeeding and post-partum women, as well as infants and children up to five years of age who meet income and other requirements.
If you have Food Assistance (SNAP) or WIC, you may also benefit from the Harvest Bucks program to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables as the Boulder County farmer’s markets.
Boulder County is also home to numerous community agencies with food banks and other assistance.
