In Boulder County, just like everywhere else, some people are unable to buy enough nutritious, healthy food for themselves and their families.
There are several ways to supplement your family’s grocery needs;
The Food Assistance or SNAP program, (formerly known as “Food Stamps”) helps low-income individuals and families purchase the food they need. You can apply for Food Assistance through PEAK, or come in to a county office to apply and complete the required interview on a first come first served basis Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If your household meets certain criteria you may be able to receive food assistance to purchase groceries the very same day.
The WIC program can provide additional assistance for pregnant, breastfeeding and post-partum women, as well as infants and children up to five years of age who meet income and other requirements.
SNAP clients can use their benefits to purchase SNAP eligible products at the Farmers Market in Boulder, Lafayette and Longmont. For each dollar they spend, they receive matching Double Up Food Bucks (up to $20 per week) to purchase fruits and vegetables. WIC clients can ask their WIC educator for coupons to use at the Farmers Market. For more information about Double Up Food Bucks, WIC, and SNAP at the Farmers Market visit BoulderCountyDoubleUp.org
Boulder County is also home to numerous community agencies with food banks and other assistance.
